Tinkerbelle

 Tinkerbelle
I want to see the sky,
With all of its colors.
I want to say a word to the clouds
To send them back to the place where they have come.
I want to feel the wind,
The sun and the perfumes of the flowers…
I don’t want to see these rain clouds,
Around our heads or above our houses.
That is luck, which makes me happiest,
And that is faith, that makes me saddest.
I want to scream a name to everything that I can feel:
“Tinkerbelle”
The fairy that allows us laughs or cries…
Keep her name in your minds,
‘Cause she will come and keep you alive.

Darkness Comes Bigger

DARKNESS COMES BIGGER

The world is turning around you,
The stars are coming closer,
Everything is becoming bitter too,
And now, the darkness is bigger.

You look somewhere to hide,
These times is for hide and seek if you are a hunter,
Nobody is on your side,
And now, the darkness is bigger.

You hide somewhere to not show you face,
You see something on your table which seems like a mixture,
When you touched it you become blind due to this mace,
And now, the darkness is bigger.

You felt guilty and I can see that your face blushes,
You feel like you are cancer,
I will scrape your name to the list of criminals on the ashes,
And now, the darkness is bigger,
Bigger like your eyes and bigger than your thoughts.

The last escape from Institution

The last escape from Institution
USA – ABG Daily News
Monday, May 10, 2010

Last day a patient from State Mental Institution, a man called R.P McMurphy, escaped with eight patients from the Institution. The Institution expressed that the names of the escaped patients were Mr. Cheswick, Mr. Taber, Mr. Fredrickson, Mr. Scanlon, Mr. Harding, Mr. Bibbit, Mr. Martini and Mr.Sefelt.  R.P McMurphy sequestrated the bus of trip which belongs to the Institution and he also sequestrated a boat from seaside. He also invited a woman named Candy for the boat trip that he had spontaneously arranged.

As most of us know, this is the week of soccer games. We have learned from Ms.Ratched that, the head nurse of Institution, R.P McMurphy suggested to change the daily program during the soccer games.

“He suggested changing the work of the night to watch the ball game and I said that what he was asking is to change a very carefully worked out schedule. Some man in here took a long long time to get used to this schedule. If we change it know they might find it very disturbing. He mentioned he wasn’t interested in the schedule. In fact, he became angry. The next day we voted again on this topic and in the voting time he couldn’t collect enough votes.” Ms.Ratched said.

The patients described that after the second objection, he sat facing the television and he acted like there was a game on the screen, however, there wasn’t a game and with this behavior he affected the patients. After all the patients acted like there was a game. When we talked with the patients about the reason behind R.P McMurphy escaped them and the answer was reaction for the refused suggestion.

How this unusual incident happened? According to the workers of SMI (State Mental Institution), R.P McMurphy and Chief were close to each other. McMurphy climbed the shoulders of Chief at the basketball area and he jumped to the inner garden, the path of outside door, and he entered the travel bus for the allowed patients. When all the patients came to the bus, he ran the engine and he drove outside.

Candy she explained that they went to seaside and they introduce themselves as professors of SMI. With this they used a rent boat to put out the sea without paying money. While they were on the sea R.P McMurphy tried to teach fishing to patients. They angled two big fishes and they turned back to the institution.

“I asked them whether all of them were crazy and they nodded me. I felt nervous but wasn’t afraid. It was as strange as being the only woman in a ward full of man in a prison.” Candy expressed her feelings.

The patients are under punishment now. They came back to their routine lives and McMurphy’s situation is under decision.

Letter To Miz Ratched

14.05.2010

Dear Miz Ratched,

First of all I have to introduce myself to you, because I know that you don’t know who I am. My name is Bihter. I’m sixteen and I’m a student of Turkish Education Foundation Inanç Turkeş Private High School. I’m at ninth grade and this is my 9th Grade English CR Class homework. I will ask some questions to you, because I want to learn many things about your work-life.
I am wondering about your personality, because I don’t know anything about your character. For example, how old are you? I think your age is between twenty five and thirty five. Am I correct? I thought like you are a young woman because I know that you have good relationships between the black guys and the other people at your work. I learned these from the guy who was mopping when a key hit the ward door from the other side you came. That guy thinks that the tip of your fingers’ color is same as your lips’ and he calls this color as “Funny Orange”, but please do not tell him that you have learnt these from me. Do you like that color? Is that your favorite one? By the way my favorite color is purple.
Although I learned that the people are calling you as “Big Nurse”. If you know, could you be as kind as telling me why they are calling you like this?  Little did you know that they don’t like you? Are the three black boys calling you as “Miz Ratched” or “Big Nurse”?
What is the relationship between the black boys and you? I have learnt something from that boy as I mentioned before, but I want to learn everything from you. I cannot trust a man who is just telling something behind someone else, because I am not able to know whether he is lying or not.  It seems like he is not telling the truth because he says that you crooked your arms around the black boys and you have done something together. It was your work-time and I believe that someone who is a responsible and a hard worker person won’t do anything wrong about her job. So, I didn’t trust him.
Among other things, how is your job? What are you doing every day? Can you tell me something about your daily routine? When your work starts and when it finishes? Have you got any weekend breaks? For example, we don’t have school at the weekends; however we have three study hours during the weekends. Have you got any extra work hour? In some jobs they’re paying extra money for extra work hours. At least but not last, for how many years you have been doing this job? I’m a student since I was seven. Ten years passed at school. What a long time…
I wrote a lot. I’m sorry if I asked anything that I shouldn’t ask but I’m a curious girl. Thank you for reading my letter!

Best wishes,

Diary of Big Chief

15.03.1968
Dear Diary,
First of all, how are you? I feel good! Actually, I don’t…  I don’t know. I want to tell you a lot of things about what happened today. I started to write all the things about the days that I’ve had at the Institute of Psychology. I talked about the day when McMurphy came to the center. Do you remember that man? He was a freak. I remember that day and I remember every single detail.  When I got up, when they shaved me, when I hid in the toilet… Let me give you one example. Did I tell you the memory that I just remembered in the toilet?  I can repeat my words in here too:
“Papa tells me that when a bird comes closer, a dog senses that bird somewhere right close. One day papa and I borrowed a pointer dog from a man that I didn’t recognize in The Dalles. Papa says, all the village dogs were mongrels and not classified or qualified. I don’t say anything, but I see a bird up in a scrub cedar. The dog recognized the bird and Papa shoot it.”
Do you see? A worthless dog can do something good. It cannot be so much valuable but it can be a good helper or an assistant. I am not valuable too, but I can be better than what I am now. I feel bigger know, big as a tree. My Papa was really big. He did everything he believed in. That’s why everybody worked on him. The last time I see my father, he was drinking from a bottle. Every time he brought the bottle to his mouth, he didn’t drink the alcohol. The alcohol drank him. I don’t say that he is dead. I don’t say they killed him. They just worked on him and you know who they are. Even the dogs he hit don’t remember my father now. I don’t want to be like my father. I want them to remember me. That’s why I write. Who knows me in this Institution? Nobody…
I put this memory in the notebook that I started to write today. I don’t know why I did it. Maybe I wanted to tell everything I have done that day. I don’t really care… All of the writing that I started today made me really happy for some reason. I wanted to work on something, because I have the time to do whatever I want. I have no job. To write my memories like a book gave me something to work on. Now, I can spend my entire time on this book-notebook thing or something like that. To work on a group of memory makes me think of the old days. Sometimes, I’m getting sad and I remember I miss all of those happy days. Sometimes I notice my mistakes or the good and bad decisions I made. I recognize that I made many mistakes. In fact, I’m regretting now... now. I know that I should change myself. If I can change myself, I can be more valuable. I want to be bigger, brave and innocent. Papa wasn’t innocent, but he was big. That’s why he didn’t die. The people he was disturbing worked on him. I don’t want people to work on me.
Sometimes I think about myself. Have I got any friends? No. Have I got anything to work on? Still no… When I was writing the memories, I wanted to list my friends, but I couldn’t. I don’t talk with people. They cannot understand me as long as I don’t talk with them. I know that I can talk, but I don’t want them to know this. If they knew that I could speak, they would ask me many things about myself. Also if they knew that I am able to hear and understand everything they talk about me, they wouldn’t be talking about myself in front of me and I wouldn’t be able to learn what they think about me. They rarely say bad things concerning me but I cannot react to them because if I react, they will understand that I’m lying. It really hurts to hear something bad about you and not being able to show any reaction.
What can I do, sometimes? I want to change myself, but before this I should think about all the things I can remember. I will continue to write the book-like thing. Papa tells me to keep still, I want to keep still! I am going to do my job. No more regrets and no more pain. I don’t like to remember the old days, but I will remember. Maybe, after I pour all of my memories into the yellowish pages of this book-like thing I will be able to forget them. Who knows?
That was the way I felt today. Take care of yourself.
            Goodbye!
Big Chief

A New Chapter for One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest

A New Chapter for One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest
I ran to the forests. I saw many trees around me while I was running through the end of the forest. Red leaves, yellow leaves, the brown ones and the green ones… I saw the colors of the life. Where I was going? What I was going for? I cannot remember now. I just wanted to leave the institution. It was such a boring place. Every day, we were doing the same things. After you wake up, black boys shave you and Big Nurse lets you have breakfast. You go to a room where everybody sits and plays something.  You do nothing new. You are becoming more and more crazier.
I saw the end of the forest. There was a long lake. I couldn’t pass it with jumping to the other side. I had to swim. I didn’t put my clothes off because I didn’t want to walk naked. I jumped the lake and I swam to the other side. I didn’t like my clothes when they were wet. Before I continue walking, I lay down to the ground and waited my clothes to dry.
I continued to walk. I became hungry but there were nobody and no place that I could find something to eat. So, I tried to find an orchard or just a plant that has fruit on it, but I couldn’t find. I walked alone and after an hour I saw a farm. I thought maybe the farmers would give me some food to eat. I walked until I reach the farm.
The door of the garden was very old. It was a wooden door and it wasn’t locked. In the garden, there were pigs and chickens. When I entered the garden the chickens crowed. The pigs smelled like dry blood. They seemed like monsters to me. I didn’t want to see them.  The owners of this farm were Thomas and Lilly. Thomas was a strong man and Lilly was a small woman. They gave me egg and bread to eat. Papa was eating egg every evening. He was drinking his tea while he was eating. They didn’t give me tea and I didn’t want tea from them.
Papa was hunting bird. He was good at that. I stayed at the farm and I started to teach how to hunt to Thomas. He was learning fast. Papa was telling me that I wasn’t good at hunting. I know that I am good at it. Thomas knows it too. It isn’t hard if you have a good dog. Papa was telling me that mongrel dogs are no count dogs.
I left the farm. Thomas and Lilly didn’t want me to go. I changed my way to the hills.

How Does the Effect of War Shown in Literature

How Does the Effect of War Shown in Literature
In history, war is often considered just a course of study seen mostly as the information contained diaries, letters, military reports and memories of people. If we research on the psychology of the people who were living at the times of the World War I, World War II, Vietnam War or Pearl Harbor, we can see that soldiers and society were deeply affected by the war. War, however, plays a much more active role throughout literature because of its affectivity. The major part of O’Brien’s story, “Ambush”, Joan Didion’s essay, “Letter from Paradise” and John Steinbeck’s essay, “Why Soldiers Won’t Talk”, show lasting impact of war on all members of society, not just immediate or only soldiers.
O’Brien’s short story “Ambush” is a tale about a soldier who fought in the Vietnam War. The story begins when the man’s daughter wants to know if he had killed anyone. He lies to her, later telling us he had killed an enemy soldier. We learned throughout the story the narrator wished he had acted differently. During Vietnam war, last Friday a young Vietnamese man came out of the fog, carrying his weapon in one hand; muzzle down and moving calmly into the center of the trail. He saw a short, slender young man of about twenty. “I did not hate the young man; I did not ponder issues of morality or military or duty” (O’Brien). O’Brien expresses in this quote that had not felt anger to that soldier; he wanted to warn soldier as much as he wanted the soldier to go away but not kill him. The narrator was afraid of the soldier or afraid of something else; as the soldier passed him, he threw a grenade that exploded at the man's feet and killed him. The narrator says: “Sometimes I forgive myself, other times I don’t” (O’Brien). In this quote the narrator shows his regret and shame and these feelings made him hide the truth from his daughter. He was affected by the battle and later he understood that there is no reason to kill a person. To show his regret about war and to express his sadness he started to write stories.
Didion’s essay, “Letter from Paradise”, is about what Didion sees when she visits Pearl Harbor and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. In her essay she shows   how a person can be affected by war’s aftermath. She used the behaviors of passengers before they see the sunken boat to emphasize the affect of war on these people. At the beginning of the tour, Didion says that “The passengers comparing complaints about their tour directors and their accommodations” (Didion). In this quote Didion shows even though people were unaffected by de war at the beginning of the tour. She later describes everybody became quiet at Arizona, because they have seen the sunken ship and they were petrified when they have seen the aftermath of war.  She also describes the aftermath of the war doesn’t affect every generation. “The children pout that they would rather be at the beach” (Didion). Actually not everybody was affected, because the younger generations who didn’t experience the war weren’t affected by it. Didion was focused on the effects of war o the people. When she went the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific she sees a woman who lost her son 25 years ago. She describes the woman’s behaviors. “The leis were already wilting by the time the woman finally placed them on the grave, because for a long time she only stood there and twisted them in her hands”(Didion). She shows that even though 25 years has passed after a war, people still feel the pain of losing a relative during the war. They can forget the events happen during the war, but they cannot forget the victims of the war.
Steinbeck’s essay, “Why Soldiers Won’t Talk”, is about how the soldiers forget the memories and senses they had at the battle. He expresses the war is mentally traumatic for the soldiers, so the brain erases everything automatically. “The system provides the shields and then removes the memory” (Steinbeck). This quote shows us the soldiers’ brains block out all the memories and senses to preserve soldiers’ psychology, because if the soldiers remember everything, they wouldn’t fight again and they could regret. However, the soldiers don’t forget everything; they remember the pain they had. The soldiers don’t forget everything suddenly or they’re forgetting day by day. They felt a strong pain during the war and it is hard to forget everything. “Under the blast your eyeballs are so beaten … ears hurt, but then they become dull and all your other senses become dull, too” (Steinbeck). Steinbeck explains that the nerve ends beaten, ears shudder and unexpected sleep comes because all the senses become dull and all the nerves get injured. Steinbeck shows us even though the war hurts all the nerves of soldiers, they are fighting again and again because their brain erases everything during the sleep and that makes them available to fight again.
Consequently, the war somehow affects soldiers and civilians who are relatives of victims of the war. It affects their emotions; it becomes a wound on their heart which has been bleeding since they lost someone they loved. The soldiers can forget the people they killed. “Men in prolonged they seem to be reticent –perhaps they don’t remember very well” (Steinbeck). O’Brien shows the damage of war and to kill a man as the feeling of regret. The feeling of regret made the soldiers quiet as much as the war damages their memory and their psychology with making them quiet. All the soldiers and their relatives remember the war times, but the time passes fast and society’s memory fades. “The earth is raw and trampled in that part of the crater, but the grass grows fast, up there in the rain cloud” (Didion). The memories would be forgotten day by day and the wars become forgotten too.

Protecting Children and Giving Information with Tags and Labels

Protecting Children and Giving Information with Tags and Labels
In 1985, the Recording Industry Association of America, the National Parent-Teacher Association and the Parents' Music Resource Center developed the black-and-white warning sticker now used voluntarily throughout the music industry. According to the American psychologists, that kind of rating system was necessary to protect the children’s psychology. It is true that some songs have insulting, sexual or violence content as well but on the other hand a song can have educational, political or emotional content Although many people objected to the warning and information labels, actually they’re guides for educators and parents, allowing them to protect the psychological health of children.
Through the 1985 debate two types of labels were developed. The first type is warning labels. It contains three categories: violence, sexual content and insulting content. Those warning labels are absolutely perfect guides for parents as a warning.  Children have to be protected from violence; because it affects their psychological health in a negative way and it makes them depressive. Also children have to be protected from the sexually aggressive lyrics because those songs can prompt teenagers to have sex at an earlier age. According to the researches on guilty children, a child who listens aggressive music has a tendency to violence.  The second group of labels is information labels. It contains three categories just as the first group but these are: educational content, emotional content and political content. It is necessary for the listeners so they can have information about the content of the product before they buy a recorded music production. Although it has a role that makes the song lyrics categorized. For example if a song is about love or divorcing, it has to be categorized as emotional content.
The songs which are about education are guides for parents, educators and students. In Turkey, there are music bands for the children between the ages of 3-7 and one group called “Rock Class” who makes educator singles for primary school children. Due to the fact of the effect of emotional songs on people’s psychology, the songs which are about emotions have a necessity. Some people show their feelings with the music and music have a strong effect on these people. For this important event, giving people to express their ideas and emotions with music, there is a need for emotional content labels. In Turkey, if a singer comes out with a CD which has mostly love songs, that CD would have the first place at Top10 List. For example, when Umut Kaya – a rock singer – came with the album “Mevsimler Geçerken” (When the Seasons were Passing) – a love songs album- he placed as first because most of the girls who love somebody were listening him.  However, if a group of people is interested in politics, they are enthusiastic about listening political songs. If a young person who is about teenager ages listen political songs that can easily affect his/her ideas and that would take a countries’ situation back to the 80’s Turkey. In 80’s Turkey was in a chaos of political conflicts. Some groups of university students were socialists and they were only listening the songs about politics. In Turkey, there is a band called “Grup Yorum” (Group Comment) and they were playing some political songs whose lyrics were about the political events in the past of Turkey. These kinds of songs made the teenagers more interested and enthusiastic about politics and with this, the university students became a part of those conflicts.
Nevertheless, the censorship could be limited with not censoring the lyrics of music bands and just giving their lyrics some kind of labels. Writing the lyrics as they want is one of the fundamental rights of music bands. With this categorizing system, these rights wouldn’t be infringed upon. In mass media there is a need for censorship because of the audience of children or young adults and every government is responsible for protecting children’s psychology. If a new rating system with warning and information labels is applied, the need for censorship would decrease. The behavior of teenagers is influenced by popular culture and the music they listen affects their psychology directly. For an eight year old boy, it isn’t suitable to listen a song about sex. Also if 50Cent came out with another CD which has 20 tracks of every one of them includes very crude lyrics, it has to have a warning label so the parents are able to make educated decisions about what to expose their children, and teens will be protected or warned. Although parenting practices may differ, parents would be able to protect their children from the injurious material if he chooses.  Only if the parents support this system with controlling the products their children bought and the music markets give importance to this system, it can work. Every parent has different ideas about deciding which materials are injurious and if they do not support this rating system, the system won’t be able to work.
As it is seen clearly, there is a need for categorizing every product. It is making the markets more organized and every type of music more available. Thus, every music company should decide the categories of the contents of their songs and they should approval about this event. The rating system of song lyrics is produced to protect our children.  Undoubtedly, it is within your power to contribute significantly to shaping the societies of the coming century; youth can move the world (Messages from the Universal House of Justice, 615)”.  Thus, we should protect the youth because a healthy youth means a successful future.

Beginner’s Luck and Beginner’s Mind

Topic: In The Alchemist, King Mechizedek explains the principle of “favorability”, or beginner’s luck, a concept that is also important in Zen Buddhism, which emphasizes “beginner’s mind. “ Do some research on this topic and discuss how it works in the novel. In what situations does it help Santiago? Why would a beginner be luckier than someone with more experience? Have you ever benefited from beginner’s luck or witnessed someone else who did something surprisingly well the first time?
BEGINNER’S LUCK AND BEGINNER’S MIND
Beginner’s Mind is a concept that comes from another concept in Zen Buddhism called Shoshin (nyuanshin). Shoshin is based on having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a new subject, or even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner in that subject or that job would. The concept of Beginner’s Mind is also used as a book subject by late Shunryu Suzuki-Roshi, a Zen teacher.
Beginner’s luck is a concept which deals with the Beginner’s Mind concept. When someone decides to do something which he or she was not used to do, he/she becomes a beginner. A beginner should think carefully before deciding something and act self-possessed. So a beginner has less chance to fail.
“Every search begins with beginner’s luck. And every search ends with the victor is being tested. (pg.132)” If someone begins a search and devotes himself to his search, the universe will help him. There always are such omens to show him his route.
At the story, Santiago was a beginner in many situations. He has started his journey with an aim to travel many places and he devoted himself to this event. His luck gave him a treasure. When he had an effective dream, he saw the gypsy and told about his dream to her. If he was a man who is embezzled by a gypsy, he wouldn’t believe her. But he wasn’t experienced so his luck helped him. When he met with the king, Mechizedek, he learned about favorability and his way of looking the life had changed a little. His luck made him know how the universe helps a beginner. When he tried to sell his flock, he wasn’t a merchant but he was honest. So the man who wants to be a shepherd bought his flock. Santiago sold his flock very easily and he earned a good price from his flock. When he started to work in crystal merchant’s shop, he was a beginner. He wasn’t used to sell crystal objects. When he suggested selling tea in crystal glasses, the merchant didn’t allow him first, because he thought the glasses could be broken and he will be in injury. On the other hand, Santiago persuaded the merchant because he believed his ideas and he didn’t have such prejudices like the merchant’s. That was the effect of beginner’s luck on Santiago.
As we can see from Santiago’s story, a beginner can be luckier than someone with more experience. First of all a beginner hasn’t got many prejudices. A beginner thinks carefully and just focuses on the basic events. An expert will think deeply about the details but a beginner will look the whole event as possible as basic.
I strongly believe in beginner’s luck. When I was a seventh grade student, I was playing badminton as a hobby. One day our P.E. teacher came to class and said that we were going a badminton tournament as five girls from my class. We were shocked. That was the first time we played badminton with professional players. We placed the first place between seven teams. That was the thing made me believe in beginner’s luck. A beginner tries to do his best like Santiago did in the crystal merchant’s shop and we tried to show our best too.
Santiago was a man who learned what Soul of the World and the real life is during his spiritual and eventual journey which has started with the earned believe and power of beginners’ luck. He started to believe himself and finally he found his treasure.

How The Technique Of The Film V For Vendetta Affected The Vision Of It?

How The Technique Of The Film V For Vendetta Affected The Vision Of It?
There are many techniques to make a film. The special effects, the gestures, the camera angles -which include the point of view expected from the spectators- and the usage of sound effects are some factors that affects the reaction and perceive of spectators. Every director has his own technique and also every story which have a certain age needs special techniques to show its properties and to make spectators understand the story easily. Also the quality and quantity of the techniques affects the quality level of the film on the visual base.
In the film V for Vendetta, the main music was Tchaikovsky’s 1812th Overture. All of the music was harmonious with the scenes. With the change of events the type of music changed too. The explosions happened in unison with the music’s rhythm. Also the music used in the scenes in V’s house was showing the character of V. The books and the furnishings which are stolen by many places were showing V’s character too.
There were many special effects used in movie. The flash of lightning during the rain was seemed as real and also it was effective because it is a symbol of power which comes from the god of lightning in Greek mythology –Zeus- and it was showing the power of Evey. The corps was seemed as real. The blood on the corps and the people whom V attacked was seemed as real too. The explosions were realistic and affective. Also the effects of movements of swords used by V were effective. There was a gray path which shows the movement way of every sword. When the man tried to kill V, leads were making the spectators think as they are using those guns.

Some parts of the movie were showing egoism. For example the parts of the daily meetings and emergency meetings the background was black and there was a huge screen window, the light was only on the faces of inspectors and the flags. That was showing the tyranny and authority of the leader. The light was making the atmosphere of the scene like there is an interrogation. However, there were some scenes which include symbolism as addition to egoism too. The fireworks were drawing the letter V. Also when V had shoot by the inspectors, he took of steel vest and his blood draw on the wall the letter V. These were symbols of the person V.
The techniques used in the film affected the spectators as making them feel a part of the people in the movie. Also the wholeness of movie made to understand events easier.  The two main characters showed in every time period. When some events happened, the film showed the reaction of whole community from the families to the government members. This technique helps people to feel as a person from the community of movie. To make people feel like moving in movie is a technique of psychological affection. When someone takes an event a part of his life or gives a meaning to this event from his own life; he appropriates that event and understands the basic ideas more specific and clear. With the studies the film became more understandable from the audience. If you hear the sounds that fit with the actions in unison, you will feel yourself as a part of that. This is what the technical crew created!

Why we are going to school?

WHY WE ARE GOING TO SCHOOL?
People attend school for many reasons. Some of them have a common reason but the students in Turkey don’t have a common reason to attend school. Every student has his or her own reason.  Some of them are going to school just for fun. Even though school is a place for education, some students don’t go to school for being educated. Some of them are being forced by their parents to go to school. Expanded knowledge, societal awareness and enhanced interpersonal relationships are some other reasons to go to school.
Perhaps some of the students are going to school to expand their knowledge. They are the responsible ones. They have an aim to reach with going to school: having a satisfactory future. We can call them as “education oriented students”. The students who are going to school to expand their knowledge are curious and enthusiastic about learning new information and adding new things to their treasure of knowledge. Therefore, they will have great background knowledge and they will be successful. Being successful will probably satisfy their egos. A student who works and tries to benefit from the expertise of his teachers will learn as much as he can. Hence, he will have a good job and many efficient opportunities. If a student knows that having good opportunities depends on learning every important thing from experts, he would go to school to expand his knowledge.
School isn’t a place for only educating students. Besides, it is a perfect place for having fun. Some students are going to school to enhance interpersonal relationships and to become a popular student. They are the students who aren’t as successful as education oriented students. Most of them have social problems or interfamily problems. They are being social with using school as a tool. Little do they now that being social don’t mean that they will be satisfied in the future. However, they are able to find friends easier than the other ones. A student can go to school for both of two reasons: to expend his knowledge and to enhance interpersonal relationships. These students who are “interpersonal relationships oriented” are the active students of the schools. They attend extracurricular activities and social clubs. They are being motivated with the feeling of being popular and being motivated. Thus, they are enthusiastic about going school and enjoy with it as much as it is possible.
In spite of the enthusiastic students some students aren’t wishing to go to school. In fact their parents are forcing them to go to school.  Being forced doesn’t motivate them. In other words, they are not school oriented students. Some of them are supine and they are becoming apathetic when it comes to work. They can have accomplishment however they should be encouraged. Thus, their families are forcing their children to study a lot and become an active student during the school time. Some parents think as they are motivating their child with forcing, but it is a definitely wrong action. Indeed, the students are becoming humble and modest. They are adolescents so rebellion is in their blood. If the parents force them to attend school they can rebel with not studying the lessons and this fact makes them failed. Even though their parents encourage them to study, they still may be unsuccessful.
Briefly, all of them are going to school for some reason. The reasons depend on the families they have born in, the places they live in, the lives they are bearing with. They all have different opportunities so they all have different reasons to go school. Even though the most efficient way is being an “education oriented student” every student isn’t aiming to become successful in academic way. Differences make us human and as human beings we are all different. In fact, we have tons of reasons for every event. Going to school is just one of these events.

How to Measure the Height of a Skyscraper by a Barometer?

How to Measure the Height of a Skyscraper by a Barometer?
During the physics exam of Copenhagen University, students were expected to answer this question:
“How to measure the height of a skyscraper by barometer?”.
An interesting answer to this question was:
“Firstly, you tie a rope to a tip of barometer. After that, you release the barometer until the bottom of the skyscraper. If you sum the rope’s length with the barometer’s length, the result will be the height of that skyscraper.”
As a result of this answer, the student has failed, and he objected to the administration. A teacher assigned to solve the issue and that teacher decided the fact that even though the answer that was given by the student was right, it wasn’t including enough information based on physics. So, s/he decided to give this student six minutes time to explain the details. The student improves his/her answer as:
“Firstly, you take the barometer to the top of the building and you calculate the time passed until it reaches the bottom. The height of the building can be calculated by using the formula h=1/2gt2. However, since the barometer is a cylindrical, this method is an inappropriate choice.  If the weather is sunny, you can measure the length of barometer’s shadow by setting it up on the ground. If you measure the length of the barometer too, you can apply a simple proportion (Thales relation) on the barometer and the skyscraper. Yet, if you want a more logical and scientific answer, you can tie a string to the tip of barometer and you can wave it as a pendulum: firstly at the ground level, secondly at the top of the building.  The length can be calculated by using the difference between the two results of.  Or, if there is a fire escape outside of the building, you can use your barometer as a ruler and while you are climbing to the top of the building, you can calculate the height in the unit of barometer and turn it into other units. If you really want to that much boring and traditional, surely you can measure the pressure at the top and bottom of the building, and find the difference in the unit of milibar and turn it into feet. This would give you the height of that skyscraper. On the other hand, since we are always encouraged to use the mental independence and scientific methods together, the best way would be knocking the door of the person who does cleaning and runs errands and asking him whether he wants a new barometer or not and telling him that we can give this barometer to him if he tells the height of that building. “
The name of the student who gave these answers was NIELS BOHR, the person who gained first Nobel Physics Award and the only famous quantum physicist that was educated in Denmark.

Alors, Ugolin a déclaré mentir à Jean.
