WHY WE ARE GOING TO SCHOOL?
People attend school for many reasons. Some of them have a common reason but the students in Turkey don’t have a common reason to attend school. Every student has his or her own reason. Some of them are going to school just for fun. Even though school is a place for education, some students don’t go to school for being educated. Some of them are being forced by their parents to go to school. Expanded knowledge, societal awareness and enhanced interpersonal relationships are some other reasons to go to school.
Perhaps some of the students are going to school to expand their knowledge. They are the responsible ones. They have an aim to reach with going to school: having a satisfactory future. We can call them as “education oriented students”. The students who are going to school to expand their knowledge are curious and enthusiastic about learning new information and adding new things to their treasure of knowledge. Therefore, they will have great background knowledge and they will be successful. Being successful will probably satisfy their egos. A student who works and tries to benefit from the expertise of his teachers will learn as much as he can. Hence, he will have a good job and many efficient opportunities. If a student knows that having good opportunities depends on learning every important thing from experts, he would go to school to expand his knowledge.
School isn’t a place for only educating students. Besides, it is a perfect place for having fun. Some students are going to school to enhance interpersonal relationships and to become a popular student. They are the students who aren’t as successful as education oriented students. Most of them have social problems or interfamily problems. They are being social with using school as a tool. Little do they now that being social don’t mean that they will be satisfied in the future. However, they are able to find friends easier than the other ones. A student can go to school for both of two reasons: to expend his knowledge and to enhance interpersonal relationships. These students who are “interpersonal relationships oriented” are the active students of the schools. They attend extracurricular activities and social clubs. They are being motivated with the feeling of being popular and being motivated. Thus, they are enthusiastic about going school and enjoy with it as much as it is possible.
In spite of the enthusiastic students some students aren’t wishing to go to school. In fact their parents are forcing them to go to school. Being forced doesn’t motivate them. In other words, they are not school oriented students. Some of them are supine and they are becoming apathetic when it comes to work. They can have accomplishment however they should be encouraged. Thus, their families are forcing their children to study a lot and become an active student during the school time. Some parents think as they are motivating their child with forcing, but it is a definitely wrong action. Indeed, the students are becoming humble and modest. They are adolescents so rebellion is in their blood. If the parents force them to attend school they can rebel with not studying the lessons and this fact makes them failed. Even though their parents encourage them to study, they still may be unsuccessful.
Briefly, all of them are going to school for some reason. The reasons depend on the families they have born in, the places they live in, the lives they are bearing with. They all have different opportunities so they all have different reasons to go school. Even though the most efficient way is being an “education oriented student” every student isn’t aiming to become successful in academic way. Differences make us human and as human beings we are all different. In fact, we have tons of reasons for every event. Going to school is just one of these events.
